Autobiography

My name is Hao-Ping, Dai. My English name is Joshua. I am an 18-year-old student at National Hualien Senior High School. There are five members in my family - my father, mother, older brother, younger brother and me. My father is a security guard while my mother is a kindergarten teacher. My older brother is a university student whereas my younger brother is studying at kindergarten.

“Independence” is one of the most crucial parts in my family education. My parents always hope me to be more independent and mature. They want me to face and overcome problems on my own. When I have to make important decisions, they will guide me to express my own thoughts and try to analyze the SWOTS of the status quo.

Furthermore, I am a man who advocates team life. A team is just like a society. We meet various kinds of people in our life, and everyone is like an informative book. We can learn the advantages from other people. As a result, I like to join in all kinds of extracurricular activities, such as volunteer training, science camp, and summer camps. In addition to being the participant, I have also worked as the staff of five summer camps, which made me learn a lot and feel touched deeply. With the five-year experience, I have realized more than other fellow students. For instance, I have learned how to plan a series of activities, to get used to different environments, and to communicate with people in a group. Most important of all, I have learned to deal with all the problems through cooperation. We reflected what happened and needed to improve during the day at the review meeting every night, because we hoped the following activities could make progress.

However, communication among people is very subtle. People know each other not only by means of joining in activities but also by writing words which make the interaction among people more exquisite. I like not only writing but also creation. The reason why I am very enthusiastic about writing may bethe fact that the beauty of words has fatal attraction to me. Because of this, I have participated in the school magazine club for two years during my senior high school period and I was the leader of the club in my second grade. I have joined the school magazine camp held by National Taichung Wen-Hua Senior High School twice. Besides, to improve my writing ability, I have also participated in literature writing camp held by United Daily News Co., Ltd.

Although the school magazine is just a campus publication, the process of publishing it is fairly complicated. I have been truly enriched during the period editing the school magazine. The process of publishing the school magazine, such as finding the subjects, collecting materials, interviewing, composing articles, proofreading, and printing, was very tough. People do not know that the process of publishing the school magazine is tough until they experience it in personal. However, when I saw the final products read by others, I wasreally happy.

People have to work with patience and face difficulties with perseverance. This is one of the mostfundamental lessons I have learned in team life. The reason why I apply for Department of Indigenous Development and Social Work is that I am an aboriginal and I do care about the issues of aboriginal communities, especially those in eastern Taiwan. The courses, teachers and equipment of National Dong Hwa University leave a strong impression on me. I aim to return to my aboriginal community and try my best tosupport the indigenous development.

Therefore, I sincerely hope that I would have a chance to learn the relevant administrative skill and humanistic consultation as dealing with indigenous issues in your department. Thank you for your time in reading my autobiography.
